Bio-Glandin 25

Bio-Glandin 25 contains the highest attainable cocnentration of gamma-linolenic acid - 25%.

This polyunsturated omega 6 fatty acid, GLA functions within the body's metabolism as a precursor for the beneficial type 1 protaglandins.

Prostaglandins formed from GLA have a beneficial effect on many conditions, including premenstrual syndrome, eczema, acne, psoriasis, allergies and rheumatic conditions. 

Bio-Glandin 25 contains cold pressed oil from the medcinal plant Borago Officinalis (Medicinal Borage) a richer source of GLA compared to Evening Primrose Oil.

GLA is also found in cell membranes where it acts as an essential component of prostaglandin E1. This is a hormone type substance that is associated with the immune response.

Does it work?

There have been many studies looking at the benefit of taking GLA based supplements to help control PMS symptoms. However, overall there are no clear conclusion with some studies showing a positive benfit while others do not. Despite this many individual have experienecd the benefit and the medical profession continue to recommend GLA based supplements when PMS symptoms are first reported. 

On specific symptoms such as breast tenderness there has been clearer results:

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study compared the effects of danazol, bromocriptine, EPO, progestins, and placebo in 291 women with mastalgia.The experimental agents were tried sequentially, and the patients subjectively rated theirrelief by recording their assessment of pain on a visual analogue scale supplemented by a pain diary. EPO (3 grams per day) was effective forcyclical mastalgia in 45% of patients, with a relapse rate of 21% after the first course of treatment.
