Flaxseed Oil
Flax seed- contains lignans which have both estrogenic and anti-estrogenic activity. Menstruating women who consume about 10 g of milled flax seed daily showed significant hormonal changes. The changes seen are similar to those in women who consume soy isoflavones. Lignans help reduce hot flushes, cycle changes and ovarian dysfunction.
Some women have found that taking flaxseed oil can help treat symptoms of PMS, including mood swings and breast pain. Flax may also be an effective, natural way to treat uncomfortable hot flashes that occur in menopausal women.
Flax seeds come in two basic varieties, brown and yellow or golden, with most types having similar nutritional values and equal amounts of short-chain omega-3 fatty acids.
Flaxseed Oil is a naturally rich source of the Omega 3 fatty acid Alpha-Liolenic acid, the Omega 6 fatty acid Linoleic Acid and the Omega 9 fatty acid Oleic acid.
Flaxseed is claimed to benefit every molecule in the body! It improves the quality of hair, nails, and skin, as well as helping to regulate bodyweight, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and prevent arthritis and cancers.
The flax plant, an ancient crop, yields the fibre from which linen is woven, as well as seeds (linseed or flaxseed) and oil.
Like olive, canola, and most other plant oils, flax seed oil is highly unsaturated and heart-healthy. Lignans and other flax seed components may also have antioxidant properties, which means they may reduce the activity of cell-damaging free radicals.

Does it work?
Flax oil is a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids which is also found in fish oils. The high level of omega 3 in flax oil suggests that it will have a similar if not greater effect on PMS than fish oils.
In one study where half of the female participants were given fish oil for 2 months and the other half were given a placebo. After 2 months the groups swapped over. The results showed that the women suffered less menstrual pain whilst taking the fish oil.
